Big win for Bassett

Bassett were on top of the game from the off and a good start. The first shot came within two minutes from Fraser, but the ball was cleared off the line by the Stratton defender. Again Bassett push Stratton back which is helped by Arron running down the right wing at the Stratton defenders. Stratton break down Bassett's left the cross is made and semi cleared by Bassett, the ball then drifts towards Bassett's goal, Joe runs out of his goal but the ball bounces over his foot, Joe manages to get a small touch on the ball, and the ball spins away with no damage to the Bassett score line. Then the break through, a great ball from Fraser over the top of the Stratton defenders allowing Arron to run onto the bouncing ball. Arron lines up the shot with his right foot and hits the ball very sweetly from some 30 feet; the ball finds the top corner of the Stratton goal. Bassett take the lead.

I must say it was good to see both Max and Callum supporting the team, even though they were not selected, great to see. Bassett's passing was ok but not great, two many times we attempted to take on two many Stratton players and lost the ball. Arron won the ball on the right and drove goal bound, the forwards ran into the box, expecting the pass, Arron shoots and hits the post, earning Stratton a goal kick. Again Bassett break Sam plays a great ball to Fraser, Fraser shoots but the shot is saved. Josh W wins the ball on the left after receiving a good pass from Tyler, Josh passes the ball into the feet of Michael, and Michael shoots but does not connect cleanly and slices the ball to the left of the goal. There was some good defending, with Regan, Josh H, Scott and Dale working hard to keep Stratton out. Tyler was playing well chasing every ball supporting Josh W on the left. Although Stratton were being outplayed Bassett started to play the ball over the top which just is not our game and I can't help feeling we lost some composure on the ball.

Arron again ran down the left after a good ball from Josh H, Arron puts in the perfect cross, but there was no Bassett attacker in the Stratton area, the goal keeper collects and clears his lines. Then Bassett get their second, a good pass from Michael plays in Sam, Sam shoots and finds the back of the Stratton net. Bassett are now two up. Tyler keeps the pressure on Stratton forcing a corner, but the corner is cleared with no threat to the Stratton goal. Half time Bassett 2 Stratton 0. I must say that, again we were caught off side time and time again. Also in the first half we could have scored two or three goals by playing the early pass, something to work on in the second half.

The second half starts well with Tyler earning a free kick some 15-20 feet from the goal area. Arron steps up and goes for goal, but the ball fly's high over the cross bar. The passing looked better specifically between the forwards and midfield. Bassett are putting the squeeze on Stratton, a good break by Michael gives him the space to shoot, the ball is pushed away by the goal keeper, Sam picks up the loose ball and shoots but again it's saved. Then the move of the day for me, a long ball by Regan finds the feet of Sam, Sam skilfully flicks the ball into the path of Josh W, Josh pushed forward beating the Stratton defenders, and shoots, the ball is cut into the right hand corner beating the goal keeper, Bassett are now 3 up. Sam is replaced by Tom. Dale is off and Jake in on.

Bassett again attack, this time down the right, the ball is laid back to Scott, who crosses the ball forcing the Stratton keeper to punch the ball away, allowing Stratton to clear their lines. Stratton are struggling to clear Bassett's attacks, Bassett earn a throw, Scott puts in a long throw allowing Arron to cross the ball into the Stratton goal mouth. The ball bounces and Tom manages to work some space and shoot, but the shot is saved. Stratton have no response to the attacks, a long ball over the top allows Fraser to run into the Stratton half, Fraser is strong beating the defenders, Fraser shoots and scores, Bassett are now four up. Bassett are now on top and starting to improve their passing around the midfield to the forward, a good ball from Fraser allows Josh W to put in Bassett's fifth goal. Josh W is playing well taking on Stratton and passing the ball around well which usually starts a strong attack. Again Bassett attack, a great pass from Tyler plays in Fraser, Fraser beats two defenders and shoots and finds the back of the net. Bassett are now six up and pushing Stratton back. Jake was playing well in the back, clearing well and holding his position in the centre of the defence. Josh H also is playing well on the right putting in those hard tackles when required. Also Tom who was playing upfront played some very good passes which allowed our attackers the room to attack and take the Stratton defenders on. Fraser and Arron are replaced by Sam and Dale. The final attack of the day saw a great cross from Tyler; the ball beats the Stratton defenders and goal keeper allowing Josh W to header the ball into the back of the net for our seventh.

A great win today, but I can't help feeling we should have been in double figures. There were times when if we had passed and not gone for goal we would have scored a few more. Saying that we won and convincingly. Well done.
