From the off Bassett looked the stronger side, finding gaps in Cerney's midfield. Bassett's passing was looking strong, I must say this has been improving with each game we play. Any ball which was in the air and in midfield Fraser as usual had his name on every ball. Bassett were well on top of the game and Cerney did not look like scoring or even placing any pressure on Bassett's defence of Jack, Josh H, Scott and Dale. Callum was playing well on the left and linking up with Sam on many occasions. Tyler also was working hard, chasing every ball, and battling on the one on one's. Dale found some space on the left and crossed the ball to Sam, Sam shoots but the ball is just wide of the target. Bassett still on top pushing Cerney back into their own half, Scott played a ball for Michael to run onto, Michael shoots, but the ball travels just wide. Josh H played a ball for Arron to run onto, Arron wins the ball and holds on to it well which allows our forward to run into the goal mouth. Arron works the ball around the defender and puts in a great cross, the ball has pace and height, Tyler puts his head onto the ball and thumps the ball into the back of the net, a great goal. Bassett take a deserved lead.
Tyler and Arron again in the mix playing the one two's beating the Cerney defenders, Arron digs out the ball for the cross, Callum manages to get his head to the ball, but the ball is just over the cross bar. Again Arron wins the ball and decides to beat two of the on coming Cerney defenders and shoots but the ball fly's over the cross bar. Bassett are on top and South Cerney are not ale to match Bassett around the park. Fraser finds Tyler, Tyler flicks the ball on for Michael to run onto, but the ball has too much pace. Then Cerney has their first real shot on goal, but it's from distance and does not trouble Joe in goal. Ben is on and Callum is replaced, I believe that Callum had an injury. Jack needed to cover on the left as Dale was running forward supporting midfield and Bassett's forwards. Ben is straight into the game and plays a fantastic ball over the top of the Cerney's defenders to find Arron, Arron shoots and scores. At half time Basset 2 South Cerney 0.
The second half commenced with some changes, Josh H and Tyler are replaced by Max and Jake. Bassett start the second half as they ended the first and push South Cerney back into their own half. Then bit of a strange one for me, a Cerney player went down and looked hurt, Andy A ran out and helped the player, there was no sign of the South Cerney manager. Again Arron is placing lots of pressure on Cerney and works some space and shoots, but the ball travels over the top of the cross bar. Jake is playing well at the back clearing the ball when is it was required, Dale also was pushing forward at every opportunity. Michael is working hard but did not get the run of the ball, however he played a good ball into the feet of Fraser, Fraser runs past the defender and shoots but again the ball is just wide of the target.
South Cerney then start to place some pressure on Bassett, but Bassett's defence was strong only allowing a very long and high shot, the ball seemed to hang in the air for a long time, and Joe is back tracking and looking directly into the sun. Joe manages to punch the ball down and then makes the catch after the ball had bounced. Then Bassett's third, Ben wins the ball and crosses to Michael, Michael shoots and finds the back of the net. Bassett have now turned up the pressure and look for more goals, I must say the entire team is playing well passing well and supporting each other. Then the fourth goal, a great move, Joe rolls the ball out to Scott, Scott passes the ball directly to Max, and Max controls the ball just perfectly, and plays a great pass to Fraser. Fraser passes to Arron and Arron shoots and finds the back of the net. 'Fantastic'.
Against the run of play South Cerney play a ball over the top down Bassett's left, their forward is on side and collects the ball and shoots and finds the back of the net. 4-1 to Bassett. Jack is replaced by Josh H and Tyler is back on for Michael. Joe was never really tested but was called upon to make some catches and clearances through the second half. Callum replaces Fraser as Bassett continue to place pressure on Cerney. Arron and Ben are really testing the defence of Cerney; they have no choice but to take down Arron on one of his runs. Tyler takes the free kick but the ball is just wide of the Cerney goal. Max is working hard down the right plays some good balls for Callum and Arron to run onto. Sam had run his legs off through the game pulling the Cerney defenders away from Arron channel. Then the final goal, good support from Max and Ben played in Arron, Arron runs with the ball into the Cerney half and smashes the ball into the back of the net to the right of the goal keeper. Final score 1-5 to Bassett.
A great team effort today, our passing looked sharp, our defence was strong and our midfield won the ball on so many occasions. Well done lads.
