Great start to the New Year

Today′s match was against Ferndale Rodbourne D, one of the stronger sides in the league and it would prove a stiff test for us as our first game of 2006. However, we started the match in a positive manner with Eddie strong in midfield and Max and Charlie holding good wide positions. We were on the attack from the start with Max going past his defender at will and putting in some good crosses which Keir worked hard to reach but was unfortunate in not making the required contact. Tom and Robert at the back were marshalling the Ferndale attack very well, giving Jordan in goal little to do.

It took us a little while to score the opening goal and it came directly from a corner taken by Eddie. It was a good corner, which somehow found its way through all the players and into the net. We continued to play more good quality passing football and it was not long before Charlie found some space and with a good shot scored our second. However Ferndale were always capable on the break and from one of those breaks Tom appeared to be pushed off the ball which allowed the Ferndale striker through on goal. His shot went in despite a good effort to save it from Jordan. This setback appeared to spur on our players who continued to play good passing football and Eddie from distance shot and scored to make it 3-1 at half time.

From the start of the second half we again tackled strongly at the back with Tom and Robert giving little away. This allowed us to push forward and from another cross from Max, Charlie ghosted in at the back post to make it 4-1. With fifteen minutes to go we changed things a little with Ollie, Josh and Cam all coming of the bench to give us some fresh legs. All the subs played well and got in some important tackles as well as passing the ball very well. We were unfortunate not to score more goals and a couple of good saves from Jordan ensured the score line remained 4-1. A result we thoroughly deserved and probably our best performance of the season. A fairly physical game which meant our lads had to be strong, All 10 of the boys did exceptionally well and a great start to the new year. Well done everyone, keep it up.
