Bassett not at their best as they go out of the cup

Today we played in a cup match against a team that plays in the league that is made up of A teams and it was a chance for us to show how much we have progressed this season. Unfortunately most of the players failed to perform to their full ability and we found ourselves under pressure from the kick off. Eddie and Robert were performing well at the back and Jordan was managing to keep out all of their efforts until from a corner we failed to clear and after a couple of deflections the ball found itself in our net. Again this failed to stir our players and from another corner we failed to clear properly and the ball just managed to go over the line. Half time and we found ourselves somewhat unfortunate to be loosing 2-0.

We started the second half better and started to tackle more strongly but again we failed to collect the ball from our own goal kick and a long range shot was powered into our goal to make it 3-0. Jordan was kept busy and made some good saves but unfortunately he was not able to prevent a fourth goal. Eventually Max and Charlie combined with Max having a shot come back off the post and Charlie was unable to convert the rebound. The final score was 4-0 to Highworth.

Overall a disappointing performance as we know our lads can play a lot better and we felt they worried too much about the quality of the opposition, whereas had they played to their ability the game would have been much closer.
