Evenly matched contest

This was our third league game of the season and we were trying to maintain our unbeaten record. Our opponents, Ferndale Rodbourne were also unbeaten so it looked a competitive game on paper.

The first half was evenly contested with us hitting the post and our goalkeeper making an excellent save to give a half time score of 0-0.

We started the second half slightly hungrier than Ferndale and we put them under a lot of pressure. We were awarded a penalty when Charlie was tripped in the box. He took the penalty but was unlucky and hit the bar. That miss did not dampen our spirits and soon after Ollie finished off a great move to give us a well deserved lead. We carried on playing good football but we failed to take several relatively easy opportunities that would have killed the game off.

I always had the feeling that a single goal lead was not going to be enough and with about five minutes to go Ferndale grabbed the equaliser. In the last couple of minutes we were lucky not to concede again as Ferndale had their tails up after the equaliser.

This was a very good performance from both teams. I really believe that we would have won the game if we had taken our earlier chances. By not taking our chances Ferndale always had an opportunity to get back into the game. They did get back into the game and we were very lucky not to lose the game right at the end.

A very good game to watch contested by two evenly matched teams.
