Lady luck still not with the Under 10B's

At last the sun came out and it is a little warmer for this important away game against Ramsbury. Ramsbury kick off and immediately put the Bee′s goal under pressure forcing Tom to pull off a series of fine saves that keep the Bee′s in the game. The lads string together some good passing moves but with a hard bouncy pitch running away from them they seem to have trouble controlling the ball and keeping it in play. Josh comes off after 12 minutes and is subbed by Theo who is settling into the team well.

Again in the first half the lads are showing too much respect to the opposition and this allows Ramsbury to break after 15 minutes leaving Tom exposed to a rasping shot, which he just got his fingertips to but the ball went in off the underside of the bar. The Bee′s hit back with some more good attacking moves from Callum and Theo but again they cannot seem to convert chances into goals. The lads really do need to shoot at every opportunity when near the goal, rather than trying to walk the ball in, if only to test the goalkeeper.

Again Lady luck is playing for the opposition and the Bee′s concede an unlucky deflected own goal leaving Tom no chance. Teddy goes down injured taking a ball full in the face but bravely gets up and carries on after some treatment from Pod and the threat of the cold-water spray!!

Half Time 2-0

The second half gets under way with Ramsbury on the attack and several corners are well cleared by Jack and Teddy with the help of Dec and Callum. Josh comes back on for Theo after 5 minutes and is in the thick of things right away. After 15 minutes Josh has a shot that seems destined for the back of the net but is well saved by their keeper. At the 20 minute stage Tom hoofs a long dropkick to Callum who touches it on and it′s a 50/50 ball between Josh and the goalkeeper, Josh just gets there and nutmegs the keeper to find the net.

In the last 5 minutes the lads play with passion and determination and are very unlucky not to force an equaliser. However it is not to be and the Bee′s go down 2-1 in a game that they deserved to at least draw.

As I said in the report the lads are showing their opponents too much respect, especially in the first half of matches. They need to take more shots at goal when the opportunity arises instead of trying to walk the ball into the net. The lads are losing matches by not scoring goals when the chances arise. Despite another loss the lads never gave up and fought until the end. This shows character and will stand them in good stead next season when they graduate to 11 aside.

Richard, Tom′s dad, must get a mention for a fine display of ball retrieval and not falling over, down the steep slope behind Tom′s goal in the second half.
