Bassett edged out in first game for six weeks

The first match of 2006, after a 6-week lay off, saw the lads take to the field with eager anticipation and wanting a win. The Bee′s kick off and although playing uphill into the breeze mount some good attacks with Callum and Josh up front having shots at the Ramsbury keeper who somehow kept the ball out of the net.

Ramsbury seemed to realise that they had the advantage of both terrain and breeze and started to attack the Bee′s goal in numbers. Jack Clarke and Jack Watling are solid in defence forcing Ramsbury to shoot wide on a couple of occasions and Tom, diving high and too his left pushed the ball behind for a corner. Tom again saves with his knees after 6 minutes stopping a certain Ramsbury goal.

Ten minutes in and Ramsbury attack again and shoot but Tom has it covered only for the ball to take the smallest deflection off a defender into the bottom left corner for an unfortunate own goal. The Bee′s now one nil down were stung into action Another great run by Josh results in the shot fizzing just past the right post.

Ramsbury on the attack again with 2 players bearing down on the Bee′s goal Tom goes out to narrow the angle and makes an awesome save with his legs. Few!!! A good goal kick finds Dec who flicks on to Josh who volleys the ball past the Ramsbury keeper for the equaliser, one each.

Right from the re-start Callum has 2 cracking shots saved by the Ramsbury keeper who didn′t know much about either!! The half time whistle blows with the score one all.

Half Time

1 – 1

George comes on for Jack Watling and immediately settles into the defence alongside Jack Clarke. With the lads now playing downhill and downwind they exert pressure on the Ramsbury goal with chance after chance not being converted. The occasional break by Ramsbury is cleared up with some fine defensive work and understanding between Tom, Jack Clarke and George.

Josh hits the post after 10 minutes which preceded a series of corners for the Bee′s that presented some easy chances that again and again were not converted. Matthew started to make some good runs at the Ramsbury defence but to no avail. With 5 minutes to go a bouncing ball is missed by the Bee′s defence and leaves Tom stranded and lobbed for Ramsburys second and winning goal.

This was the best performance by Tom, Jack Clarke and George in defence and Josh and Callum up front I have seen all season so far and they were very very unlucky to loose having had most of the possession during the game. The lads just need to put away some of the good chances that they create, in other words learn the scoring habit.

Parental support was back to it′s best with everyone shouting support for their individual superstar.
