More bad luck as Bassett lose another close contest

The Bee′s start the match like an express train, putting Marlborough under immediate and sustained pressure winning several corners. Some excellent passing of the ball between Josh and Matt and determined tackling by Dec produced some good opportunities to score but again the lads seem unable to take advantage of this good play. Josh B.B. started to find his feet a bit in midfield and laid off some good balls to Callum and Josh.

Marlborough started to play better bringing Teddy and George, into the game on several occasions in defence. Tom makes an excellent save after 13 minutes preventing a certain goal. There is now end to end action with Josh hitting the bar and Tom saving several times just before half time.

Half Time

0 – 0

Early in the second half Marlborough score, after a goalmouth scramble results in an unlucky deflection into the goal off a Bassett player. The lads must deserve a huge dollop of good luck at some point in the season cos they′ve had more than their share of bad.

The lads keep on trying and George hits, a great lob, which the Marlborough keeper just gets to and fumbles, but no one is there to follow up. Tom cuts out several balls with a fine display of catching and his accurate goal kicks set up several attacking moves one of which sees Matt hit the bar after 20 minutes. Marlborough win a corner and send in a spearing shot destined to go in just under the bar but Tom gets both hands to it and tips it over.

With time running out Callum hits a powerful shot but again their keeper saves the day denying the Bee′s a more than deserved goal. There it is the full time whistle blows and the Bee′s lose a game they deserved to win, again.

Full Time

Marlborough 1- Wootton Bassett 0

However I thought several things resolved themselves, position wise, today with Teddy and George combining very, very well in defence along with Tom in goal directing operations at the back. Declan was tremendous on the right side winning the ball on numerous occasions. Callum and Josh, with the right service up front are more than able to score goals.

I would also like not to criticise the ref who I thought did a great job in protecting the boys and being very fair.
