Points shared with Wroughton

We all travelled to Wroughton for this away game against Wroughton B with the Bassett Bee′s looking for a confidence-boosting win. All went well for the first quarter with some fine attacking moves resulting in good crosses by Matthew and shots from Josh after 13 minutes and a powerful shot from Dec soon after all of which their keeper saved. The Bee′s defence held up well with Teddy playing well and Jack foiling a Wroughton move down the left side. Dec, who was having a superb game, forced the Wroughton keeper to save another powerfully struck shot.

At the 24 minute mark Josh scored the Bee′s first goal after a solid build-up by the lads. The Bee′s are buzzin now and from the restart Callum scores the second just before half time.

Half Time Wroughton 0 Wootton Bassett 2

Wroughton start to attack more in the second half after the Wroughton A team manager arrived and started coaching them from the touch line. But good defending by George and Teddy saved the day. Tom, who up to now had very little to do, pulled off a good save after 5 minutes. Lots of substitutions now late on in the half with Jacob coming on for Matthew, Josh back on for Theo, Matthew back on for Dec, Callum went off after suffering 2 outrageous over the top tackles, one in each half. It was a lot of tooing and frowing and I felt it disrupted the rhythm of the Bee′s who were holding Wroughton quite comfortably at this stage and looked odds on for a win. Literally in the 59th minute Wroughton score an unexpected goal to keep their hopes alive. Immediately after the restart Wroughton mount their last gasp attack and score a last kick of the match equaliser.

Final score Wroughton 2 Wootton Bassett 2.

This was no disgrace to draw away from home but I did think that the lads concentration lapsed along with their energy levels late on in the second half and feel that they need some energy giving food at half time along with their drinks. Playing on heavy pitches in cold weather will sap the lads stamina very quickly indeed. The lads gave their all today especially Dec who seemed to be everywhere.
