Frustrating game for Bassett

The game started well with Bassett playing good, flowing football with plenty of confidence. Ferndale were happy to defend deep into their own half and attack with a long ball game. It was this strategy that broke the dead lock when the two Ferndale strikers outpaced the Bassett defence twice in ten minutes to lead 0-2. A poorly defended corner saw Bassett trailing 0-3 at the break.

The game resumed along the same lines with Bassett playing much better football, but failing to convert any of their many chances. Again Bassett fell foul to Ferndale's long ball game and with 20 minutes to go, found themselves 0-5 down. Bassett renewed their efforts and the last 20 minutes were played almost entirely in Ferndale's half. Bassett finally scored with a fine solo effort by Tim Gleed, who coolly beat the defence to score with a low driving shot. Final score, 1-5, in all a frustrating game with Bassett playing the better football by far, but failing to convert their chances. There were some very encouraging individual performances to carry forward to next week's game.
