Second win on the bounce for Bassett Under 15's

Two wins on the trot for the U15s, who thoroughly deserved to beat a Northleach side who battled hard throughout the game. Bassett began the game on top and had a number of early chances to open the scoring. That they didn't was down to the excellence of the visiting teams goalkeeper, who made a number of outstanding saves to keep them in the game. Martyn Anderton and Tom Orton were ripping the Northleach defence to shreds down both flanks, Martyn going close to scoring with a lob from outside the box with the keeper for once beaten.

Just when it seemed the teams would turn around level at half-time, the ball was won in mid-field by a hard working Ross Barber, who passed out to the left. The ball was worked across to the right to find Tom Orton in space to crash the ball home. The half-time whistle blowing minutes later.

The second-half started more evenly, with the Bassett keeper, Joe Brennan, being kept on his toes on a number of occasions. The home side continued to press and should have wrapped the match up but continued to squander chances. With 15 minutes of the second half gone, a hopefull lob by a Northleach striker found Joe off his line and the ball went in off the underside of the crossbar. The lead was restored, however within 2 minutes, as Tom James slid the ball home after a goalmouth scramble. The game continued to swing to and fro with chances on both sides. Joe making an outstanding save to push the ball onto the post and Martyn clearing away (this being all the more remarkable as only a handful of seconds earlier Martyn had had a shot blocked by the keeper at the other end). The final whistle blew with no further score to give Bassett a well deserved victory.
