Bassett worthy winners

A match which Bassett should have had sewn up by half time became one that was a little too close for comfort at the final whistle. From the kickoff, the visitors were hemmed in their own half for the first 10 minutes with Bassett pressing for the first goal. It duly came from Tom James as he followed up his own shot off the post to slot in the rebound. With the way the opening period had started, the Bassett coaching staff were expecting an avalanche of goals to follow. It was not to be however, the shots still rained in on goal but the ball refused to go in. It was Blunsdon who scored next, in the 20th minute, with only their second attack of the match, a through ball catching the home defence ball watching. Normal service was resumed from the kick off but it wasn't until just before half time that Tom James found Tim Gleed in space to ram the ball home from 10 metres.

After a reshuffle of the team the game became more open and the Bassett defence had to work harder, but Scott Smedley in goal was rarely troubled. With 5 minutes of the second period gone, it was Tom James who scored after some good work by Tim Gleed, holding up the defenders and then passing the ball out to Tom. The home teams 4th came from a goal mouth scramble, this time Tim scoring blasting the ball home past a static keeper. With this goal the whole team seemed to relax thinking the game won, which allowed Blunsdon to pull a goal back with 8 minutes to go. Bassett were not to be denied, however, and duly finished the game worthy winners, but not by the distance their amount of possession deserved.
