Bassett concede late to lose in friendly at Greenmeadow

Bassett Under 12's threw away a 4-3 lead in the closing five minutes of this friendly match to lose 5-4. The home side went in front from the penalty spot midway through the first half following a handball by David Lazenby, after Craig Munday had failed to hold a Greenmeadow shot. Greenmeadow deserved the lead having played the better football but the goal seemed to give Bassett a wake-up call and they began to get back into the match. A penetrating through ball from Jonny Aitkenhead put Phillip Tearle clear and he fired a powerful shot to put Bassett back on level terms.

The second half saw both sides play some good football and goals from Sean Toomey, Jonny Aitkenhead and Phillip Tearle (his second of the match), with Greenmeadow scoring another two in reply, appeared to have secured a third win this season for Bassett over Greenmeadow. However, it was not to be, some poor defending allowed the home side to score two late goals. Once again there were several below par performances from a few players as again Bassett allowed themselves to be physically out-fought and this time by a side who were a lot smaller than Bassett. Oh to have a young Mark Vaughan type player in the side who was prepared to get stuck in!
