Wootton Bassett Town Under 12's finally ended their dreadful run with a fine 5-2 away win at Greenmeadow. The small pitch at St Lukes School forced Bassett into a passing game and Bassett played some nice football in the first half, creating most of the scoring chances. However, Greenmeadow were also a dangerous side going forward and twice Bassett keeper Craig Munday had to pull off saves to deny the home side the lead. At the other end, Jonny Aitkenhead and Tom Marchment went close for Bassett. Just as it looked like the two sides would turn round 0-0, Jonny Aitkenhead switched the play with devastating effect, putting Phillip Tearle clear of the Greenmeadow defence and he made no mistake. There was still time for another goal, Phillip Tearle and Matt Povey combining down the right, Tearle then crossing and Tom Marchment firing into the net to make it 2-0 to Bassett.

The second half started with Greenmeadow introducing two substitutes and the move paid off as they scored within a minute of the restart to get themselves back into the match. Bassett continued to work hard and managed to regain the two goal advantage when Jonny Aitkenhead scored following a goalmouth scramble. Tom Marchment, playing well in an uncustomary strikers position, extended the lead further with his second of the match and could easily have finished the game with a hat-trick. With five minutes remaining Greenmeadow pulled a goal back to cause some tense closing moments in the Bassett defence. It took a superb goal from Phillip Tearle to finally secure the three points for Bassett, a run down the right hand side, was followed by a cut inside and a shot from 20 yards over the keeper's head. The best goal of the match and fittingly scored by Bassett's man of the match.
