Bassett end season with a convincing win in friendly with Ramsbury

Bassett Under 12's finished off their season with a comfortable victory over a side who had just missed out on promotion to the top division of the Swindon & District League. Phillip Tearle opened the scoring with a well taken goal following a through ball from Jonny Aitkenhead. Jonny Aitkenhead himself should then have extended Bassett's lead but blasted over when clean through on goal. Bassett had most of the play but keeper Craig Munday had to be called to Bassett's rescue when Ramsbury did get past the Bassett defence, which happened on a number of occasions, as Bassett lost control of the midfield for a spell.

The second half was, however, all Bassett and to be honest Bassett shuld have scored double figures. In the end they had to settle for five, Phillip Tearle scoring a second, Jonny Aitkenhead scoring twice and Tom Marchment scoring with a left foot cross! Man of the match was Mike Ford, who dealt with everything with a calm air, even when Bassett went three at the back, which often became two at times as the full backs went forward hungry for goals (who says we are too defensive minded!).
