Narrow defeat against bogey side Stratton

Bassett visited bogey side Stratton Juniors and once again came away with nothing. With a strong wind blowing from one end of the pitch to the other, Bassett elected to play with the wind first half but did not make use of the advantage as they let Stratton have most of the possession. Bassett created few chances and the closest they came to scoring was when Jonny Aitkenhead hit the crossbar from a free kick in the closing moments of the half.

In the second half Stratton made better use of the wind but for much of the half were denied the opening goal due to some excellent defending by Tom Marchment and David Lazenby. The only goal of the game came midway through the half when Bassett's defence cleared the ball to Stratton's Kevin Tate who hit a shot from 30 yards which, wind assisted, sailed over keeper Tom Holmes and into the net. Bassett had two clear cut chances in the closing minutes to snatch a draw. Firstly, Dean Wason blasted over from the edge of the box and then Jonny Aitkenhead saw his goal bound shot superbly saved by the Stratton keeper.
