One of best performances to date

In what must rank as one of Bassett's their best performances ever, Bassett completely out played a side who were physically taller than the tourists but who lacked the same commitment and desire to win as Bassett. In a splendid first half Bassett found themselves leading 4-0 at the break. Two goals from Sean Toomey and one a piece for Tom Marchment and Jonny Aitkenhead, his fourth of the tour gave Bassett a richly deserved interval lead. One of Sean Toomey's goals was the goal of the game. Some good inter-play between Josh Dimond and Jonny Aitkenhead put Phillip Tearle in the clear down the right-hand flank and his cross was powerfully met by Sean Toomey, whose header rocketed into the net. Whilst Bassett's attacking play was a joy to behold, it was the tenacious tackling and work rate of Josh Dimond in Bassett's midfield which allowed Jonny Aitkenhead and Phillip Tearle the freedom to attack the home side. Time and time again he won the ball in midfield and set a Bassett attack in motion. The home side were at their most dangerous from corner kicks with their height advantage but could not find the net. An inspirational team talk from First Team Manager Pete Yeardley saw Bassett go out for the second half determined to keep a clean sheet.

In the second half Bassett defended their advantage as the home side stepped up a gear to try and get into the match. The Bassett defence marshalled by Mike Ford worked hard to deny the home side, with both Dan Strange and Stuart Smedley making some timely tackles as the home side drove forward. Once again Josh Dimond worked tirelessly in the centre of Bassett's midfield to limit the home side to a few long-range efforts. Bassett extended their lead when Sean Toomey scored following a goalmouth scramble. The DFC keeper saving a Pete Willis effort which fell nicely for Sean Toomey to complete his hat-trick. Bassett worked hard until the final minute to ensure a clean sheet, Tom Holmes dealing well with the one on target effort he had to deal with all night. A fine result with the whole team playing well, with one or two, Josh Dimond in particular, having exceptional games for the club. A fine end to a fine tour both on and off the pitch. The children's behaviour and appearance throughout the tour was exemplary and they were a credit to themselves, their parents, the club and their country. Everyone now can't wait for next year's tour to come around!
