Best performance of the season so far

In a good weekend for the Club's Youth Section, Wootton Bassett Under 12's continued their run of form with an excellent 6-0 away win over an improving Highworth side. This was Bassett's best performance of the season and, but for some tremendous saves by the Highworth keeper, there could have been a lot more goals. After a tight opening 10 minutes, Bassett took the lead when Matt Purse linked up well with Sean Toomey and fired into the net. The same two players were involved with the second Bassett goal, this time Sean Toomey being the player to register on the score sheet. With Phil Tearle, Jonny Aitkenhead and Josh Dimond dominating the midfield. Bassett created a number of one on one opportunities for Sean Toomey, Tom Marchment and Matt Purse but were frustrated by some fine saves from the Highworth keeper. At the other end of the pitch, Dan Strange, David Lazenby and Mike Ford ensured that Highworth were restricted to long range shots at Bassett's keeper, Tom Holmes. Bassett extended their lead when Matt Purse hit a powerful shot from the edge of the 18-yard box passed the Highworth keeper.

Bassett all but killed the game off as a contest in the opening minute of the second half when Jonny Aitkenhead was put clear of the Highworth defence to score his 7th league goal of the season. The hard-working Tom Marchment, having another fine game leading Bassett's attack, continued his goal a game record since moving up front to make it 5-0 to Bassett. Bassett rounded off their best all round team performance if the season when the ball broke to Stuart Smedley on the left edge of the Highworth 18-yard box, following good work from William McCurrach, and he coolly lobbed the Highworth keeper for his first goal in three seasons.
