Another defeat for the U12's

Bassett's desperate run of results continued with a resounding defeat at home against a very good Wroughton Juniors side. Bassett had no answer to the power of Wroughton's Jack Hiscock who helped himself to four goals in a man-of-the-match performance. He could have easily scored more and would have had but for the performance of Bassett's debutant keeper, Craig Munday. Three times in the opening five minutes he pulled off tremendous saves to deny Wroughton's star player. As well as these saves, Stuart Smedley headed off the line in the opening minutes as Wroughton threatened a goal feast against a lethargic Bassett side. Whilst Bassett's recent run of three consecutive defeats have been close matches this was very much a one sided affair, especially in the first half.

Bassett rallied in the second half and at times took the game to Wroughton but created few goal scoring chances. Another Hiscock goal and a lob from Johnny May gave Wroughton a 5-0 lead and Bassett were gifted a consolation goal when a Phillip Forster shot somehow squeezed under the body of Wroughton keeper James Moore. Wroughton moved into second place with this win, one point behind leaders Stratton Juniors but with a game in hand.
