Big win on the main pitch at Rylands Way

Wootton Bassett U12's were on fire in this match played on the senior club's pitch at Rylands Way. Bassett enjoyed the space on the large pitch with Jonny Aitkenhead and Phil Tearle pulling the strings, opening up the visitors time and time again down the right hand side. The first 15 minutes had been very tight with both sides creating chances but once Bassett got themselves in front, there was only going to be one winner. First half goals from Jonny Aitkenhead, Matt Purse and Tom Marchment gave the home side a comfortable 3-0 interval lead.

In the second half Bassett continued to get behind the visitors defence, again mainly down the right hand side, and further goals were added by Phil Tearle (2), Jonny Aitkenhead and Matt Purse with their second goals, Sean Toomey and Phillip Forster. An excellent performance by Bassett with special mention to stand in goalkeeper Dan Strange who kept a clean sheet in his first ever appearance between the sticks in a competitive match. Credit to Highworth who continued to play a passing game right until the end but on the day they met an in-form Bassett side who remain unbeaten in five games played so far this season.
