First class Bassett

The Under 11's took a break from official league action to play a friendly against Sherston. This was an opportunity to give full games to a number of the children who do play that regularly and the team played very well. The passing amongst the Bassett side was first class at times and drew complimentary comments from the opposition's parents both during and after the game. On a pitch similar in size to our own home pitch and using similar size goals, Bassett certainly felt at home. The fact that the game remained without a goal at half time was due to the performances of the two respective goalkeepers. Phillip Tearle and Matt Purse were in tremendous form for Bassett and were involved in most of Bassett's better moves.

The half time introduction of Johnny Aitkenhead saw Bassett start to dominate the match and it was he who scored the opening goal, following excellent work from Phillip Tearle. Bassett extended their lead when Matt Povey shot home following a corner. A reasonably comfortable win and a good work out for the side. Another player who deserves a special mention is Peter Willis. He has had limited opportunities this season with the side going so well, but he held the ball up well and earned himself another opportunity with the squad for the Blunsdon game with his performance.
