Bassett given a footballing lesson by Old Town Utd

Bassett entertained Old Town United from Division "A" of the Swindon & District League in this friendly match at St. Barts and were given a footballing lesson by the visitors. Bassett's attitude, in contrast to the previous week, was poor from the start with the children messing around in the pre-match warm up session. This sloppy attitude continued into the match and it was no surprise when Old Town went in front. Poor defending from Bassett allowing Paul Laggett to put Old Town in front. Two further first half goals saw Bassett trailing 3-0 at half time. To be honest the only player who did himself justice in the first half was Johnny Aitkenhead, who ran his heart out but was let down badly by his teammates. What a contrast from the previous week when and great all-round performance had seen us scare league leaders Stratton Youth.

The second half saw an improvement in Bassett's play, and this was rewarded with a goal from the hard-working Johnny Aitkenhead. The two Matts, Povey and Purse also started to play well and for a time it looked like Bassett would get back into the game. However, this was not to be, and Old Town added two further goals, including one which bounced wickedly over stand-in goalkeeper, Sean Toomey's head.
