Bassett were involved in a thrilling encounter with Wroughton at St. Barts School. In a thoroughly entertaining match Bassett came away with all three points by the narrowest of margins. The fact that Bassett won the game was down to an all-round superb team effort and some excellent goalkeeping from Tom Holmes. The match was close throughout as both teams matched each other in every position. It was real end-to-end stuff and the only surprising thing at half time was that the match remained goalless. The fact that the game remained without a goal had much to do with the performances of the two goalkeepers.

The second half continued in a similar vein but as both teams tired the chances became more clear cut and it was only a matter of time before one side broke the deadlock. Whilst Wroughton were creating more of the chances they were also being more wasteful than the home side. With twelve minutes to go Phillip Tearle found himself in space following good work from Sean Toomey and he fired the ball into the corner of the Wroughton net. The roar from the crowd could probably be heard up in Woodshaw and the Bassett players certainly enjoyed the moment. Things were, however, to get even better as Josh Dimond extended the Bassett lead following a scramble in the Wroughton box following a corner. It certainly looked like all three points were in the bag with just 3 minutes to go. However, Wroughton ensured a few tense closing moments when they got themselves back into the match with a goal from a powerful shot from the edge of the area into the higher side of the goal at the GWR end of the pitch. Once again this led to some tense closing moments and a few more grey hairs for the Bassett manager, but Bassett held out for an excellent victory.
