Bassett crashed out of the cup in style going down to their heaviest defeat ever, losing 3-9 to Stratton Juniors. A disappointing result, albeit against one of the best sides at the Under 11 age group. Early on Bassett did not have the luck, one goal was disallowed, and Bassett hit the post twice. Come half time Bassett found themselves 3-0 down, due to sloppy defending, despite having a fair share of the play. At the start of the second half an extra player, Mike Ford, was pushed up to try and get back into the game and Bassett's defence paid the penalty letting in a further 3 goals before Bassett could register on the score sheet themselves. Bassett did manage to get back to 3-7 but then let in two further goals at the end. Jonny Aitkenhead scored all Bassett's goals. Mutterings were heard again about the vice-chairman's curse, two games watched, and 14 goals conceded (42% of the total goals conceded all season)! If you see Pete today I suggest you tell him to go and watch the Under 13's at Ballards Ash.
