Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development secured safe passage in the Fountains Trophies Senior Cup with a 5-1 home triumph against Ludgershall Sports.

Despite being a contest that pitted Premier Division Bassett against a Division One side, it was never going to be a straightforward contest with Ludgershall starting the day as Division One league leaders.

And it started well for Ludgershall at the Sustain Stadium where they took the lead thanks to an own goal.

But the home side got themselves back on level terms through a headed goal from Ben Spackman.

Bassett then took the lead for the first time in the match from the penalty spot, George Lance putting the spot kick away for 2-1.

A second penalty award for the home side saw the same outcome as Lance doubled his tally for the afternoon.

Two further goals from leading scorer Kevin Lartey ensured it was Bassett who advanced to the second round where their opponentswill be Melksham Town Reserves.
