A second consecutive defeat for Bassett

After last weeks disappointing display it was important to get ourselves back on track today but we were up against another very tough team who had several Reading Academy players amongst their ranks.

Purton/Westbrook started the stronger and a speculative long range shot forced Jack to make a good early save. Then it was Bassett′s turn to pressure and Scott′s free kick was headed out for a corner. The ball was whipped into Josh who saw his effort cleared off the line with Max′s follow up going just wide. Reuben, Max and Scott were now being forced to work hard in midfield but Bassett couldn′t get their passing game together. Martin made a good block to stop what was a certain goal for P/W but before long they had taken the lead after a high ball was allowed to bounce over the heads of the Bassett defence.

In the second half Bassett tried hard to pull a goal back but it was P/W who countered to make it 2-0. A couple of good saves by Jack kept the score down but before long the pressure told and P/W scored again. Bassett kept going and should have scored when Reuben and Alex combined to force the ball over the line but the referee didn′t give it even though the P/W goalkeeper agreed it was a goal, final score 3-0.

Another disappointing result today but a good battling performance which is one thing to be pleased about. We know that every game this season is going to be hard as we are in a very tough league so all we can do is keep battling and keep trying to play good football, if we can do this the results I′m sure will follow but we must remain upbeat and not let a few bad results spoil our season. The effort and commitment was a lot better than last week and with a bit of luck and an unbiased referee the score could have ended up being totally different.

Reuben clinched the MOTM award for the second week in a row with another tough tackling performance.
