Big win against new side Hungerford

Hungerford was the venue for our second League game of the season which was against a team who were new to our League, Hungerford Town.

From the kick off it was Hungerford who started the stronger with three early attacks but Martin, Mitchell and Jack had no intentions of giving anything away at the back and the scores remained level. Five minutes into the game and Bassett took the lead through Josh who netted from the edge of the area. This seemed to calm us down and now we started to play some very good passing football which soon led to us going three up thanks to two fine strikes from Max. From the restart Hungerford broke forward and scored following a good flowing move which if only for a few minutes gave them a little hope. But Bassett were on fire by now and wave after wave of attacks saw another five goals flash past the Hungerford keeper. The first was scored by Scott who followed up Reuben′s powerful drive, this was followed by two more from Josh after good work from Reuben and Scott, then Max got his third of the day after been put through by Josh and just before half time Alex played a well weighted pass for Josh to run onto and bury with power from the edge of the area. Although we went into half time with a convincing 6-1 lead a lot of good work and important challenges had been made by Mitchell and Martin, and Jack had also made three or four very good saves.

In the second half Bassett were kicking uphill so we expected it to be a little more difficult and it was, again our defence was working overtime with Tom making some very good challenges. But soon we were back on the goal trail when Josh′s drive was handled in the area and he made no mistake from the resulting spot kick. At this point Alex was moved up front and within minutes he had added himself to the score sheet after following up another good shot from Reuben and with Scott finishing the rout with a sweet left foot strike this ended what could well be one of our highest results of the season.

A fantastic result today and another great team performance against a team who weren′t as bad as the score would suggest. Hungerford caused us quite a few problems but we soaked up everything they threw at us and looked very strong in defence and in goal. In midfield we pressured very well and played some good flowing football and up front the finishing was excellent. The MOTM award this week goes to every one of the nine players as this was a real team performance and everyone was outstanding.
