Bassett make it into Round 3 in convincing style

After progressing through the preliminary round of the cup we found ourselves drawn at home to Highworth Juniors 'B' in the first round.

The early part of this game saw Bassett piling on the pressure and within three minutes we had opened the scoring with a lovely flowing move, Jack rolled the ball out to Tom who passed it wide to Josh, he crossed to Alex who′s first time shot was saved by the HJ keeper but Scott followed up well to thunder the ball into the net. Within a minute Bassett had made it two after Max′s shot came off the post and Josh buried the rebound. Soon it became 3-0 when Josh rounded the keeper and fired in from a very acute angle. By now HJ were finding the going very tough and just couldn′t contain Bassett who were in rampant mood. With constant pressure and some very good passing football coming from the home team the score soon became 4-0. Alex won a good tackle in the Bassett half and the ball broke to Josh on the halfway line, he ran on to coolly slot the ball past the advancing keeper. Then came our fifth, Mitchell won the ball and played it early to Scott who′s cross-shot was forced over the line by Max to make the score 5-0 at half time.

Within 30 seconds of the restart we scored our sixth, Max hit a great shot which the HJ keeper managed to parry into the path of Josh who made sure from 5 yards. Josh then scored his Fifth and Bassett′s seventh after some good wing play from Max and Alex finished off the scoring with a well taken goal after a good build up involving Reuben and Scott. Mitchell, Scott, Alex and Max all had good chances in the dying minutes but the match ended Bassett 8, HJ 0.

Today′s match was a pleasure to watch and the lads are playing some great football at the moment but with some tough fixtures coming up in the next few weeks lets hope we can continue with this rich vein of form. MOTM today goes to Josh who scored five goals for the second time in two weeks although again it was a very close call as again every player deserves a huge pat on the back, well done everyone.
