Toughest test so far

After long discussion with both sets of management the game was delayed by 1hr 30mins. Kick off was rescheduled for 12 noon due to frost.

The conditions at 12 were perfect, a slight wind but great for football and what a game of football we had.

White Horse Juniors certainly know how to move the ball around and in the first 10 mins they were giving the bullets cause for concern. After some great support and encouragement from the touchline the breakthrough came around 11mins in, the captain Jack working hard in midfield managed to squeeze the ball to Scott in the White Horse penalty area after beating a defender he managed to slip it past the keeper, Brilliant, first goal to Bassett , 1-0!!

The next goal came surprisingly quickly, with White horse half asleep at the back Scott managed to turn his defender again , pass it to Jack on the edge of the box and BANG!!, 2-0 brilliant goal to watch and very well taken, White Horse started pushing the ball around making the Bassett boys work hard individually and as a team, after 5 mins of punishment, we could not take any more, with a brilliant pass & move from White Horse we conceded the first goal, 2-1 to Bassett . We needed the half to end as quickly as possible as we were getting more & more tired. We managed to get a break by being awarded a free kick, Jack took it finding Scott in space who finished with complete accuracy, great end to the half 3-1 to Bassett at the break.

The Bullets needed to get their breath back and step up their game so with a stern talk at half time they were ready and fit for the second period. It was not long before the next goal arrived and it went to White Horse Juniors, our defence just seemed to crumble, everyone for Bassett was looking lethargic and off the pace of the game with more encouragement from the sidelines this seemed to give the boys a lift and a new lease of life and with another goal coming from Jack making the score 4-2 to the Bullets, the goals were going in left, right and centre, one for Bassett, one for White Horse, every time Bassett scored the White Horse boys counter scored. We were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Box, Jack fired the ball towards the goal hitting a White Horse player and then the net 5-3 to Bassett, another 2 mins later White Horse broke down the line past our defence and a great cross to their player who was UNMARKED and bang 5-4, with 2 mins left to play both sets of supporters were willing their team to score, Jack was fouled just inside their half, Free kick, Thomas stepped up, with Jack & Scott in the penalty area, I instructed Thomas to shoot knowing that providing the ball was on target Scott or Jack would be on the need of it. Thomas delivered the perfect ball into the box and sure enough Scott picked it up, turned his man and BANG great goal. 6-4 to the Bullets, great finish and very entertaining game.

Certainly our toughest test yet, a great game to watch (as a neutral), we meet them again away on the 26th March, we can play a lot better and hopefully next time we will.

Good battling boys and another superb win!!

NEXT GAME AGAINST LYDIARD YOUTH AWAY ON 12th MARCH.

Big thank you to Steve Twine for refereeing.
