Tremendous victory against Highworth Town

This week saw a great game from the bullets against one of the strongest sides in our league this year, HIGHWORTH TOWN. We played at Ballards Ash for the first time and with a 2pm kick off it was hit or miss whether the basset boys would perform to their normal standards.

The game started well with both sides being very cautious and battling hard for every ball, the midfield was very tight and although the pitch being a lot bigger than Rylands way there seemed to be less space for us to play our passing game. The breakthrough came when Jack managed to run down the line and deliver a great cross into the Highworth box for Scott to finish, although the Highworth keeper got a touch he didn′t mange to stop the ball from crossing the line. Brilliant, 1-0- to the Bullets.

Around 10 mins later the Bassett boys struck again this time a superb battle in the middle left the ball landing at Jack′s feet in the Highworth box he decided to have a go and BANG!! 2-0 to Bassett. At the restart the Highworth lads started to play some nice football but never really got the ball into our box to threaten Shaun our new goalkeeper. We finished the half in control and with a long range shot from Harry, the ball bobbled in front of the keeper and into the back of the net, the bemused Highworth keeper had no chance, so 3-0 to the bullets at the break and a brilliant half for everyone.

The lads seemed to be very tired at half time and you could certainly tell the size of the pitch was taking its toll not to mention the afternoon start. The start of the second half, the bullets started well and seemed to have a new lease of life they dominated the first 10 mins with around 70% of the possession, there was a drop ball in the middle of the Highworth Town half after an injury to one of the players, Jack came forward for Bassett and won the ball on the bounce, while the ball was in the air Scott volleyed it straight into the top corner of the Highworth goal leaving the keeper stranded I the middle of his goal, GREAT goal and bassetts FOURTH!! With another goal coming from Jack later in the half the game was all but over and sure enough 2 minutes later the final whistle, it was 5-0 to W.B.T.F.C. against a strong Highworth Team.

Considering the boys were tired and not their best in the second half we still managed to retain a clean sheet. The boys at the back Chris, Thomas & Charan all worked very hard to minimise the pressure on our goal, making sure Highworth only had 1-2 shots throughout the game, this certainly took the pressure off the forward players and making Shaun′s debut in goal a comfortable one. A great team performance, more next week please lads.

Well done everyone, NEXT GAME AGAINST BLUNSDON COLTS AWAY ON THE 12TH FEBRUARY 10.30am KICK OFF.

Big thank you to Wayne Arnold for refereeing for us today.
