What a game against Ferndale Rodbourne

What a game this turned out to be, with both teams playing to top the table, it was quite an even game throughout as Ferndale decided to play with the wind in the first half, giving them slight advantage when defending, being able to play the ball high and putting our defence under pressure with which we coped with very well. The first goal came after about 10 mins from a free-kick on the edge of their goal-area enabling Jack Brain to power the ball low and hard towards the Ferndale goal and with a slight deflection the ball found its way inside the left hand post giving the goalkeeper no chance to save it. And so the game went on end to end. It remained 1 v 0 until the second period, when Nick Buckle got on the end of some good cross-goal passing and coolly drove the ball low to the goalkeepers right to put Bassett 2 v 0 up. The third and final goal came 4 mins from time with a well worked short corner, again playing the ball around Ferndales goal-area and this time Tom O'Donnell was in the right position, at the back post and calmly slotted the ball into the net, giving Bassett the win. The game was played at a good tempo and a lot of work was done in the midfield and down both lines. The Bassett defence was quite solid at times, which left the Bassett goalie little to do. All in all not the best performance from both sides but this game was all about desire and commitment to what was at stake and Bassett showed plenty of both. With a lot of points to play for, both these sides could still win the championship and it could go all the way to the last game. Bassett's M O T M Jack Brain for his tireless work in midfield.
