With this being the Under 10's first outing of the season, it was always going to be a real battle, against one of the undefeated teams from another division last year, Swindon soccer skills.

The game started very competitively with both teams battling their wits against the opposite number. The ball movement was end to end and it took 4 and a half minutes before any score was made.

The goal was scored by Bassett's Nick Buckle from a very good shot on the edge of the opponent's goal area, giving their goal keeper no chance with the ball going between defenders.

The battle continued with some great football from both sides, and it took another 10 minutes before another goal was scored. It was a second goal for Bassett, this time it was striker Ryan Amos from a great from a great free kick from Jack Brain on the edge of the soccer skills area. That is how the score line stood for quite a while, with both teams having an excellent game, goal keepers playing very well and defences controlling at the back. Bassett came close to conceding a goal from a goalmouth scramble but for brave defending by Cole Embling on the goal line and crashing into the goal post in the process. Our lead was still intact but in the dying minutes, I think Ellis Embling must have been watching David James too much deciding to copy him on what turned out to be quite a slippery pitch, having just rained let the ball slip through his hands, under his body and into the goal. Bassett held onto the lead for about 2 minutes before the final whistle blew giving us the 3 points against what will be one of the toughest teams in our division.

Credit goes to all the players Bassett and Soccer Skills in the way the game was competitive but fair. We at W.B.T.F.C wish a speedy recovery for C.J. O'Connell (Swindon Soccer Skills Manager) whom is in hospital at this present time.
