Toughest game of the season so far for Under 10's

This game turned out to be our toughest yet, not only physically but also mentally. With the pitch in a state of long grass it was almost impossible to play the game we normally play with the ball holding up too much and therefore the game became congested in the middle of the park. With Siddington tackling hard, an awful of the tackles were late and going in with studs up, resulting in two or three of our players taking injuries home with them. The battle was hard throughout the first half we our boys coming off second best, unfortunately the referee made no attempt to control this situation and being denied a blatant penalty for handball at the end of the first half was very hard to take. The first half finished 0-0.The second half continued as the first had finished except we controlled the ball and the game a bit better and through this, we scored our first goal from a good cross field-ball from right to left which landed at the foot of Nick Buckle whose powerful shot was driven into the nearside post and what a relief it was but it was cut short by Siddingtons equaliser within a couple of minutes, which was a goalmouth scramble with which we didn't close down and clear and we paid the penalty. A nail biting 18 mins left to play saw us pump the ball up field as much as possible and a goalmouth scramble in Siddingtons goal with 4 Bassett players trying to put the ball into their net but to no avail. The game continued from end to end and we finally broke the Siddingtons defence and scored with a Josh Shama strike across the goalkeeper and into the side netting. In all fairness Fraser our goalkeeper didn't really have a great deal to do because most of the time our defenders dealt with their attacks. A Bassett win and 3 points against all the odds showed good character and commitment and well done to all of the team.
