Basset Under 10's held by Siddington Youth

This game was always going to be tough mentally, particularly after last years heated battle between the two sides. Both sides played in good temperament and football itself came out the victor with both Bassett and Siddington playing in the true spirit of the game in this end to end encounter where either team could have taken an early lead were it not for good defending and goalkeeping from both sides. Unfortunately Bassett lost Chopper Hazard half way through the first half due to a head injury while trying to head the ball at waist height and was contacted by an opponents foot. It remained 0-0 until the half time whistle.

The second half continued as the first, only this time Bassett had more of the early possession but still found it difficult to find the net hitting the post on a couple of occasions or just heading over the bar, and it was from this pressure that Siddington scored the opening goal and it came from a good defensive clearance, deep into our half with the ball bouncing high over our defenders head and right into the path of the on going attacker whom slotted it calmly under our approaching goalkeeper. All was not lost though and Bassett replied within a minute or so with a great strike from our M. of the M Jack Brian who was just outside the goal area when the ball came to him and shot through a crowd of players leaving the goalkeeper unsighted as the ball thundered through his legs. The game continued with even more tempo than before with nerves rising on the touchline as to who was going to get the result both teams desired with only a few games left. In the end a 1-1 result seemed fair but going forward Bassett need to make sure they put away the chances they create, with some tough games left one goal could be enough to win. Well done to all.
