Under 12 Blues lose to Highworth

It was a familiar story as Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blue played some good football, dominated possession but again lost 3-1, this time away to Highworth Town Juniors J.

Playing downhill and downwind Bassett dominated the first half. Highworth had a goal ruled offside but created few other chances. Bassett created a series of decent half chances with Sam Smith heading powerfully wide and Fin Hyde, Josh Sturmey and Thomas Nichols all having shots toward goal.

The second half started in a similar fashion with Sturmey shooting just over following a corner and Cameron Iles also shooting from distance. Bassett were disappointed to go a goal behind midway in the second half but immediately equalised, Sturmey hitting a ferocious free kick from distance dipping under the despairing keeper.

Bassett pushed for a winner but disaster struck as Highworth took the lead after a loose ball in the box was fired into the net giving the keeper no chance. The game was put beyond doubt with a goal in the dying minutes to make the final score 3-1.

It looks an uphill battle for the team to avoid relegation with two games remaining.
