Under 12 Blues lose by narrow margin

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under Blue withstood the most blustery of conditions to come within five minutes of recording a point against top of the table Stratton Juniors Bears.

It was never going to be a day that would be conducive to free flowing football with very difficult weather conditions but Bassett dug deep and were very unlucky not to have earned at least a draw in a tight game of few chances.

Such was the dominance of the Bassett defence that the first half saw little to trouble goalkeeper Tom Davis, who showed great experience and judgement to quickly come off his line to snuff out a number of long balls over the top.

The second half saw a ferocious Joshua Sturmey drive hit the side netting early in the second half but few other chances for either side. However it was as Bassett pushed for a winner that they were caught on the break with the resulting low drive leaving Davies with no chance.

Bassett created their best chance in the dying minutes when an Ed Greenouff cross was met with a thunderous Caden Jefferies header which narrowly missed to the goalkeeper's left.

The game felt like many this season - a great performance that deserved at least a point. Next up is a key game away against Malmesbury Youth
