Under 12 Blues draw four goal thriller

Following their stunning 9-0 home win against Lydiard Millicent Juniors last weekend, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blue twice came from behind to force a 2-2 draw at home to FC Calne Galaxy and extend their unbeaten run to three games.

Buoyed by their recent resurgence of form, Bassett made a strong start to the game dominating possession and nearly taking an early lead from a delightful Joshua Sturmey effort from range which hit the post.

It was against the run of play that FC Calne Galaxy took the lead after a misplaced pass in defence allowed the Calne striker to score from close range.

Trailing 1-0 at half time, stern words from manager Martin Jefferies led to a swift reaction and consequent equaliser. A pin-point Joshua Sturmey corner was met by an acrobatic Thomas Nicholls volley to beat the Calne 'keeper

Bassett continue to dominate possession in the second half before a well-worked Calne goal gave Tom Davis no chance.

It is a credit to the resilience that has been installed in the side this season that Bassett continue to push for an equaliser.

And following a spell of pressure, the Calne 'keeper could not hold a Bassett shot allowing Tom Nicholls to tuck home the loose ball for his second of the game and seventh of the campaign.

Both teams had a series of half chances in the dying minutes that neither could convert and the game concluded 2-2, the same score as the reverse fixture earlier this year.

It was a great result for the team, consolidating their position in mid-table. Next up is Hungerford Town Juniors Black after the Christmas break, a side below them in the table but with games in hand yet to play this season.
