Cup defeat for Under 12 Blues

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blue lost to highly rated Stratton Juniors Gorillas in a cup match of few chances.

The first half was a very close affair with few clear opportunities. The opening goal came after a speculative Stratton effort squirmed under Tom Davies. Wootton Bassett's best opportunity fell to Finley Hyde after excellent work by Sam Smith only to see his effort just miss the Stratton goal.

Wootton Bassett remained well in the game in a second half of few chances. It was only in the dying minutes of the second half as Wootton Bassett pressed for an equaliser that Stratton doubled their lead, a long ball beat the Wootton Bassett defence and allowed the striker to round the Wootton Bassett 'keeper. Stratton made the win safe with 2 late goals, the final a great strike from distance.

Once again Wootton Bassett conceded late goals to lose but the competitive nature of the match will have encouraged manager Martin Jefferies.

It is back to league action next Sunday v Malmesbury Youth with a must win game if Wootton Bassett are going to push for the top half of the table.

Man of the Match was Sam Smith who thoroughly deserved his award for a fine midfield performance.
