Late disappointment for Under 12 Blues

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blue were denied a point at home by a late Ferndale Rodbourne Red goal in a competitive home match which ends their unbeaten start to the season.

Following a promising start to the season Wootton Bassett were determined to continue their drive toward the top of the table. Sitting one place behind them, Ferndale were always going to be a difficult side to beat and this proved to be the case.

Ferndale produced the best chances in the opening ten minutes before a battling Tom Nicholas threaded a deft pass to Ed Greenouff who had broken from midfield to find himself one-on-one with the keeper before producing a cool finish to the keeper's right.

Jake Webster produced a fantastic last ditch tackle to prevent a clear shot on goal and a series of smart stops from in-form keeper Tom Davis ensured that Wootton Bassett entered half time with a one goal advantage.

Ferndale started the second half the stronger and even Tom Davis was unable to prevent the equaliser. A Ferndale corner left the opposition striker with too much space at the near post where he was able to score with a header.

Both sides knew the game was there for the taking as the game entered the final ten minutes, but unfortunately for Wootton Bassett the goal went to Ferndale. The Wootton Bassett midfield were caught napping from a throw in resulting in a fierce right footed drive that even Tom Davis could not keep out.

Wootton Bassett pressed for a last ditch equaliser but as a Finley Hyde corner was cleared in the final seconds the referee called time on an entertaining encounter. Wootton Bassett will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they travel away to Robins White in their next fixture.

Man of the match was Edward Greenouff for his goal and work rate in midfield.
