Blues lose at home to Stratton Juniors Bears

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blue lost a tight home game at home to top of the table Stratton Junior Bears.

Despite making the worst possible start, conceding a goal within the opening minute, Bassett battled hard in an even first half and would have been disappointed to enter half time behind.

Thomas Nicholls embodied the battling spirit in the first half tirelessly chasing forward and unlucky not to score on a number of occasions. Stratton's best chances were thwarted by a great save from Tom Davis and a world class block by Jake Webster to prevent a near-certain goal.

The second half was a more even affair, but as the game was finely poised the balanced shifted firmly in favour of Stratton following a bundled second goal after Bassett had failed to clear.

Despite pushing forward in the dying minutes Bassett were unable to create a late lifeline with the score finishing 2-0.

After the game assistant manager Matt Davis praised the teams 'battering' first half performance. With no game next week it will be back to the training ground as the team prepare for a number of critical games to push for a mid-table finish.
