Christmas cheer as Bassett defeat an in-form Trowbridge Town side

An in-form Trowbridge Town arrived at Royal Wootton Bassett on the back of an impressive run of results that had seen them win their previous five league games. Bassett meanwhile had defeated Cricklade last time out but did not have a good record against their visitors, that poor record including a 2-1 defeat when the two sides met back in September. However, historic form went out the window on a cold and wet afternoon as the Royal Wootton Bassett side recorded their fifth win of the season courtesy of a 3-2 score line. Royal Wootton Bassett Town led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Carl Shepherd and Finley Sly. The first from Shepherd was a delightful chip from the edge of the box. The second from Sly came towards the end of the half, following a goalmouth scramble Nick Mason put in a header which was saved by the Trowbridge keeper but Sly was on hand to smash the ball into the net.

However, within ten minutes of the restart Trowbridge were back on level terms as leading scorer Joshua Hard put two past stand-in keeper Euan Burke to make it 2-2, taking his total to 14 for the season. Burke was having an outstanding game in the Bassett goal and could do nothing about the two goals. Despite being pegged back the home side rallied and got their just rewards twelve minutes from time when Harrison Gough (pictured) headed in the winner at the far post.

Having beaten two of the top sides in consecutive weeks manager Steve Chadwick was delighted with the way his side have improved in recent weeks and how they are playing.

"The lads are really buzzing at the moment, confidence is high. We have beaten two good sides in the last two games and like Cricklade we deserved the win over Trowbridge. Just a shame we don't have another game next week now. We have a little break and then four tough games in January but hopefully we can keep this winning run going."
