Purton and Royal Wootton Town Development had met recently in a league game and in another close encounter, Purton had won that day 2-1. When the two sides met on Saturday in the Fountain Trophies Cup at the Red House it was again a close affair played in a great spirt between two evenly matched sides. The first chance of the game fell to Josh Bolton for the visitors on 20 minutes, but he blasted over from close range. it was the home side Purton who went in front when a shot from striker Chris Avery somehow found its way under the dive of the Bassett keeper to make it 1-0 to the home side. Minutes later Josh Bolton had the chance to equalise, but he spurned the chance firing over again with just Purton keeper Luke Kuczynski to beat. Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development went close again moments later when a header from Ben Paul was superbly saved by Kuczynski to leave it 1-0 at the break. Kuczynski again denied the visitors ten minutes after the restart as he pulled off another great save to prevent a Josh Bolton effort from registering. Whilst the visitors were on top in the second half the home side were still creating chances at the other end and thought they had gone 2-0 up only to see the goal chalked off due to a flag from the referee's assistant. The visitors continued to press for the equaliser, but that man Avery made certain that it was his side who would be in the next round when he fired in a superb solo goal. He made a great turn to give himself room to place a measured shot into bottom corner of the net to make it 2-0 on 85 minutes. There was still time for the visitors to have their best chance of the game when substitute Tyrhys Mifsud fired a shot from 25 yards which finally beat Kuczynski only to come back off the cross-bar leaving the final score 2-0 to Purton.
