Frome frustrate Ladies

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies twice had to come back from behind to claim a point against at South West Women's League Eastern Division basement dwellers Frome Town as they were held to a 2-2.

The results keeps Bassett's title hopes alive, though they now require wins from their final two games as well as for current leaders Portishead Town to drop points in their final fixture of the campaign away at Almondsbury.

The inclement March weather and resulting fixture rescheduling hasn't been kind to Becky Gammon's side as they were forced to journey to Somerset in midweek.

But the gulf in league position between the two teams - and the fact they had triumphed 10-0 in the reverse fixture in Wiltshire - meant Bassett still went into the game as favourites.

However they fell behind midway through the first half after an unfortunate defensive error.

Lisa Coe curled in a free kick from the left edge of the box shortly after the restart to restore parity.

But Frome quickly restored their advantage after the Bassett defence failed to clear their lines.

Hayley Huckin then provided a third goal within a dizzying ten minute spell, embarking on a fine solo run that was rounded off by a delicate chipped finish.

The visitors rode their luck towards the end too as Frome failed to convert from the penalty spot with ten minutes remaining.

Bassett now travel to mid-table Oldland Abbotonians on Sunday, with another twist in an exciting, exasperating, thrilling title race on the cards for Gammon and her team.
