Five-star Ladies maintain perfect start

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies moved two points clear at the top of the South West Women's League Eastern Division courtesy of an emphatic 5-1 victory away against Team Mendip.

In testing conditions on a sticky pitch, a hat trick from Beth Westlake helped pave the way for a win that maintains their perfect start to their league campaign.

In their inaugural campaign playing in the sixth tier of women's football, Becky Gammon's side have triumphed in their opening five league fixtures, racking up 23 goals - making them by some distance the division's most potent attacking side - and conceding just nine.

Though the goals have been spread around the team, Westlake's three-timer make her the team's leading scorer in the league with six for the season so far.

She was backed up against Team Mendip by Laura Jefferies, who scored directly from a corner, and fellow summer signing Michelle Rich, who struck a sumptuous volley.
