Ladies shoot down Spitfires

Save for a sloppy start, which saw them concede within seconds of the opening kick off, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies were in complete control as they thrashed Swindon Spitfires 9-3 to make it two wins from their opening two South West Women's Football League Eastern Division games.

A defensive mix-up gifted the visitors the opener, but their lead didn't last long, with Bassett opening up a 4-1 lead come half time.

Katie Wadey had given Spitfires the lead, but Beth Westlake soon headed home to restore parity.

Laura Jefferies' goal direct from a corner put Bassett ahead midway through the period, before Robyn Levett grabbed her first with a fine finish and Hayley Huckin slotted home.

Levett's fine lob shortly after the restart then put the home side in a commanding position.

However, the hosts were then guilty of taking their foot of the gas, allowing Spitfires to cut eat into Bassett's lead as they made it 5-3 through Mel Bristow's header and Claire Moreton's corner.

Yet, four more Bassett goals followed. Huckin tapped in from Levett's square ball with twelve minutes to go, before Westlake got her second, chipping the 'keeper to finish off a fine solo run.

Levett and Westlake then completed hat tricks to finishing things off. The former poked in at the near post before Westlake reacted quickest to a rebound from Emma Sykes' powerful effort and steered home.
