13 Mar 2011 - Trowbridge Wanderers (H)

These two teams met on what turned out to be a sunny afternoon. Wootton Bassett fielded seven players, with no substitutes, whilst Trowbridge had a full team with substitutes. The game set off and Trowbridge had the upper hand to begin with. Wootton Bassett seemed to play a more defence game, especially as Trowbridge managed to score eight minutes into the game when the ball rebounded. Trowbridge kept up the pressure and had slightly more possession than Bassett. Wootton Bassett's midfield were trying to gain the ball but they were unable to seal their moves with a goal. With more corners Trowbridge had opportunities to score and finally managed another goal seventeen minutes into the match. Whilst Trowbridge had the more corners, they gave away two free kicks to Wootton Bassett, who tried to capitalise on them.

Half-time Score: Wootton Bassett 0 Trowbridge Wanderers 2

In the second-half Wootton Bassett came out slightly more invigorated and it seemed they had settled down. However, Trowbridge Wanderers soon scored in the second minute. Wootton Bassett's midfield appeared to be getting the ball and then they won a penalty kick ten minutes into this half. Amy Mathews took the kick at goal and scored. Both Ellie Kaye and Amy Mathews battled hard in midfield, aided by Hannah Townsend and Rach Buchanan, and they tried to score but alas the ball did not reach its mark. On the whole Wootton Bassett played much better in the second half and with their good overall defence, stopped the goal difference from being wider than it was.
