The weather was awful - wind and rain in abundance. The game flowed backwards and forwards but Swindon Spitfires occasionally had the upper hand. They managed to score in about the 17th minute. Bassett did not drop their morale but battled on and there were several near opportunities to equal the score. Eventually, just before half-time, Swindon Spitfires scored again with a powerful shot into the top corner of the net.

Despite being two goals down Bassett started the second half strongly and very nearly scored in the first three minutes. Bassett had drive, which almost ended in goals. Bassett's defence also stood firm against the strong goal attempts from the Spitfires. However, at the end of the day, although Wootton Bassett created some good scoring chances, Swindon Spitfires had been able to clinically convert attempts into goals when it counted.
