20 Nov 2010 - Trowbridge Town (A)

Unexpectedly, Wootton Bassett found they had only six people for this away match and Trowbridge Town kindly agreed to play with six players on the field to make it even. The game kicked off and everyone worked hard. Katie Rea fended off the goals, Felicity Talbot and Hannah Townsend covered the defence and Ellie Kaye, Amy Mathews and Rach Buchanan moved the ball around midfield. However, in the 17th minute Trowbridge Town managed to score their first goal. Then a few minutes later they scored again. Bassett, however, did not become discouraged. They had managed to create a few good goal opportunities for themselves and it was a pity they did not find their mark.

Half-time score: Wootton Bassett 0 : Trowbridge Town 2

The second half started well and Bassett held their own under pressure. Then after seventeen minutes, disaster struck, as Wootton Bassett's goalie, Katie Rea strained a muscle in her leg. So down to only five players, Ellie Kaye, resumed her former position in goal and the other players did their best to keep possession of the ball. There were a couple of times Bassett threatened Trowbridge's goal. However, ultimately Trowbridge Town, with their ability to substitute fresh players, managed to score again. Then two minutes from the end Trowbridge Town scored a stunning final goal. Despite the adverse situation all the Wootton Bassett players played superbly, worked their socks off and knitted together resolutely as a team and most of all kept their spirits high to the bitter end.
