07 Nov 2010 - Larkhall Athletic (H)

The game started strongly for Larkhall and within about five minutes they had scored. Larkhall used their key players well and 20 minutes into the game were able to score again. Bassett had a few strong breaks to try and score, especially by Amy Mathews, but unfortunately these did not end in the looked for goals. Bassett's defence and Katie Rea as goalie, were then able to keep the other Larkhall goal attempts out of the net. There were a few bursts of hope in mid-field by Rach Buchanan, Jaye Mcguigan and Shannon Furey but unfortunately these, once ignited fizzled out. It seemed when they got the ball individually each Bassett player worked hard, but collectively nothing was flowing fluidly for the team and they were not marking or tackling Larkhall with their customary zeal. Half-time score: Wootton Bassett 0 : Larkhall 2.

In the second half it was hoped that the score line might galvanise Bassett into co-operation and action, since previously they have made strong comebacks. Although Katie Rea, swapped back into mid-field from goal, Felicity Talbot and Ellie Kaye did manage a few good moves, these were not capitalised on. Despite Larkhall remaining strong, Shannon Furey, goalie in the second half, and the rest of her defence team managed to keep the Larkhall team at bay. Unlike their away game with Larkhall, disappointingly, Bassett seemed to have lost their magic spark of enthusiasm and determination in this match, which gave Larkhall the upperhand to remain confident and keep possession of the ball and ultimately win the game.
