With an exceptionally strong crosswind the two teams took to the pitch. The Spitfires took possession at the start of the game whilst Bassett got into gear. Then Bassett's midfield and striker were on the ball, passing well and between them there were creating a good few goal opportunities. However, 19 minutes into the match Swindon Spitfires managed to get past our strong defence and score. The game continued evenly up and down the pitch, both teams giving their all, having goal attempts and a corner each. Then near to half-time Katie Rea was in the right place at the right time and scored for Wootton Bassett.

In the second half both teams had all to play for. The midfields of both teams were strong and were eager for the ball. This meant both goalies were kept on their toes. Whilst Aimee Menzies was doing an excellent job in defence, Felicity Talbot was able to take a few forays into midfield. Bassett had good possession of the ball during this half and won more corners than the Spitfires. However, despite Bassett's good play, Spitfires had their tenancious players like Gabrielle Bickell, who won back the ball occasionally and goals were thwarted by some good saves from the Spitfires' goalie, Megan Emms. There was one 'heart in mouth moment' when Bassett's goal was wide open, but thanks to some quick clearing by Chloe Elmore, a Spitfires' goal was averted. The final 5 minutes were tense as each team went all out but Bassett's defence managed to quash any more attacks by the Spitfires. Although it was disappointing for Wootton Bassett that they did not win, they played a very good and exciting game against the Swindon Spitfires. We look forward to playing them again soon.
